The Shenzhen Museum of Contemporary Art (MOCAPE), designed by Coop Himmelb(l) au, awarded by the IES (Illuminating Engineering Society) for the outdoor lighting design
The Outdoor Lighting Design Award, the award for outdoor lighting awarded by the Illuminating Engineering Society (IES) in New York, recognizes excellence in the field of outdoor lighting design.
In other words, it enhances the achievements that stand out for aesthetics, innovation, technology and creativity.
The aim of the program is to promote knowledge in the field of outdoor lighting as a key aspect of architecture.
COOP HIMMELB (L) AU, worked with AG Licht to develop an impressive lighting project for the MOCAPE, the Museum of Contemporary Art and Planning Exhibition in Shenzhen, China.
The project embraces two structures: the Museum for Contemporary Art (MOCA) and the Planning Exhibition (PE). The outer skin consists of a layer of perforated metal panels, and the actual insulating glass envelope.
Given the particular shape, a two-dimensional drawing could not express the design in a complete and precise way. That’s why the team used Building Information Modeling (BIM) for lighting design, and made revisions in real time by 3D VR, improving the system in concert with updates to the architecture and curtain wall design.
The skillful installation and hiding lamps led to evenly distributed interior lighting that adds to the mystery and arouses the visitor’s desire for exploration.
