desert cities

Luca Curci Architects is always amazing. As in every development, even in Desert Cities, human beings, the environment, well-being and environmental sustainability are the focal point of the project. The result?  A cutting-edge project that looks at the future, without neglecting even the slightest detail.

The goal of Desert Cities, is actually to create a living model characterized by energy saving, optimization of resources, respect for nature and enhancement of human relationships, proposing a community based on the development of new identities and memberships, a socio-economic model aimed at cooperation and engagement.

The project plan consists of a series of identity-places, symbiotically interconnected with each other, to configure a single organic and articulated system. There are three existing architectural types, different in size, function and number of inhabitants. The smaller buildings can house single or multi-family residences, small communities composed of 1 to 5 family members; medium-sized buildings are home to facilities serving the community (research, cultural, administrative centers…). Finally, the biggest buildings host more articulated communities, ranging from 2,000 to 5,000 inhabitants and their work, cultural and social activities. Desert Cities is an aggregation of communities aimed at achieving social development in full respect of the resources and living conditions of the territory that hosts them. The complex will be developed with natural materials with low environmental impact coming from the intervention areas. The project, in fact, aims to maximize the use of the natural elements of the desert, sun and wind, for the production of energy, as well as a careful and conscious use of water, through the recovery and reuse of waste water, the collection of rare but abundant rainfall, and the production of drinking water through desalination obtained through solar energy.
