la foret blanche
In the Villiers sur Marne Municipality, the first Vertical Forest will be soon built.
Forêt Blanche is one of the latest projects signed by Stefano Boeri Architetti and promoted by Compagnie de Phalsbourg. A 54m high tower with entirely wooden structures coated with 2,000 trees, shrubs and plants, with a green surface equal to a hectare of forest, 10 times the surface area of the lot on which the building is located.
Forêt Blanche will house residential units on the upper floors, offices and commercial services on the lower part, with a combination of terraces and balconies on the four sides of the tower. The east and west facing sides will allow sunlight freely enter the space all day, giving natural illumination and ventilation to the apartments and a stunning panorama on the landscape of downtown Paris.
Forêt Blanche is one of the 12 architectural buildings presented by Compagnie de Phalsbourg on the Marne Europe – Villiers sur Marne site, called Balcon sur Paris. Balcon sur Paris is inserted within the wider framework of “Inventons la Métropole du Grand Paris”, one of the largest competitions for urban development promoted in the Parisian metropolitan area, that has involved 51 sites in total and major professionals in the architectural industry.
The master plan of public green spaces was designed by the American studio James Corner Field Operations, which curated, amongs the others, the New York High Line project of Diller+Scofidio, and by Atelier Paul Arène.
With Forêt Blanche, which is added to ongoing Vertical Forest group in China, Europe, South America and the United States, Stefano Boeri Architetti also extends its research into France, towards a new generation of architectural buildings that adds plants and trees as an essential element, going beyond the concept of green as just a simple decoration. Architectural structures that take up the challenge of facing climate change and increasing biodiversity in urban contexts.
