AT THE ART DEODATO GALLERY OF MILAN IS NOM ON THE EXCLUSIVE EXHIBITION JOAN MIRó. CAPOLAVORI GRAFICI. UNTIL 4 NOVEMBER 2017.
In Milan is now on the exhibition on engravings and lithographs by the fascinating Spanish painter Joan Miró, belonging to a rich heritage of graphic creations, to which the great Catalan master turned throughout his artistic career.
Alongside with some works from the 1930s, the exhibited works were created especially in the period between the ’50s and the ’80s, a time span that Miró mostly devoted to the art of engraving; in fact, in the late 1950’s, he moves to Palma de Mallorca, where he establishes a workshop of engraving and lithography. Fascinated by this technique, characterized by varied expressive possibilities and communicative offers, he sees in this medium the possibility to perfectly embrace his art, versatile, full of symbols and bright colors. The use of uncommon tools such as combs, nails, fingers and more, besides direct and physical contact with the materials, contributes to make his work even more original, from which a strong connection also emerges from an emotional point of view.
Often intended for volumes and magazines published in limited edition, whether it is drypoint etching, steel engraving or color lithographs, Miró’s graphics are faithful witnesses to his language and at the same time create image and text, reinterpreted according to his own sensitivity, in a perfect blend.
In the picture, engraving and aquatint Sans titre III of 1981 on guarro paper, able to provide a strong three-dimensional and evocative effect of the bas relief, and the poster made on the occasion of the 1982 football world championship, a colorful, fresh artwork that replaced the old classical iconography of the bullfighter and corridas, achieving a tremendous success.
