DING 3000 DESIGNED A SET OF CUTLERY THAT, UNLIKE DISPOSABLE UTENSILS, IS DESTINED TO LAST OVER TIME
DING 3000 is a German design studio that deals with product design. In particular, it focuses on the creation of original products and looks always for new challenges.
According to this philosophy, DING 3000’s team designed JOIN. At first sight, it can look like a modern sculpture, but it is actually a set of cutlery that includes knife, fork and spoon with little sections cut out in the middle, which allow them to slot into each other. Thanks to its high-tech plastic material, you can bring JOIN everywhere and eat whatever you want or you can use it do decorate your dining table for guests.
“Not only a utensil but in fact, a completely new form of table decoration! Now you can really forget about folding all those napkins into the shape of swans, and besides, time spent waiting for the meal can be spent toying with the puzzle” say the designers. And it’s exactly a puzzle, ordered on the internet, that has inspired the team of DING 3000. At first, they thought to use stainless steel, but when they presented their project to the producer Konstantin Slawinski, it quickly become clear that there would be difficulties with a metal version of the object. That’s why they decided to use plastic and to contact the designers and engineers of BASF’s designfabrik who recommended the use of the sturdy Ultramid plastic. In addition, they got in touch with professional knife sharpeners who helped them to create a knife that will retain its shape blade, even after prolonged use.
