THE WORLD IS UNDERGOING A MAJOR CLIMATE CHANGE, WHAT DESIGN CAN DO?
What Design Can Do (WDCD) is a platform for the advancement of design as a tool for social change. Since its inception in 2011, WDCD has undertaken numerous activities to promote the role of creativity in addressing the world’s most pressing societal and environmental issues. On Earth Day, What Design Can Do, in partnership with the IKEA Foundation and the Autodesk Foundation, announced a new global design competition that will focus on climate change, definitely one of the most urgent issue that humanity is facing right now. An event concerning this important issue will take place in Amsterdam on May 23rd and 24th and this conference will also see the launch of the WDCD Climate Action Challenge.
We are already witnessing the harmful effects of climate change, with floods, droughts, dying ecosystems, and civil wars caused by constrained food and water resources. So, what design can do? Designers will be asked to think about design solutions that will help to reduce the causes, to adapt to the effects of climate change but above all, to create awareness. In short, creative ideas for a better world!
