French-born product designer Ariane Prin has created Rust Timepiece to highlight the inextricable relationship between material and time. Comprised of twelve wedge sections that are handmade by mixing metal particulate with various gypsum based materials, the sections are then put through a controlled metal oxidization process that can take weeks or even months before being assembled, giving each piece a unique, constantly evolving texture.
“Every time I go to my studio I’m excited to see the objects’ changing textures,” says Prin about her process. “It’s like each one of them was alive and slowly mutating with time.” Available in a range of colors including grey, orange, green and blue in steel, brass and copper dust, the possibilities are infinite.
