The final days of October mean the start of Downtown Design, the leading trade fair and annual showcase for local and international design talent in Dubai. For local leaders, this small but significant event is the focal point of future Dubai, nurturing a much-needed creative ecosystem for the city’s growing design community. Occurring alongside Dubai Design Week, directors of the fair hope these design-centered gatherings will empower Dubai to achieve global recognition as a leading creative hub.
Presenting a carefully edited roster of over 100 established and emerging brands from 25 countries, Downtown Design will feature contemporary design in furniture, lighting, bathrooms, kitchens textiles and accessories. It will once again host ‘Destinations,’ an initiative that brings together Design Weeks from around the world, with this year’s edition featuring Addis Ababa, Barcelona, Beirut, Reykjavik and Taiwan Design Weeks. And as one of the key goals is to promote local talent, Dubai-based architect Tarik Al Zaharna of T.Zed Architects was commissioned to reimagine the visitor experience around the theme of nature, incorporating natural materials in the design of common areas.
The fourth edition of Downtown Design will take place from October 25-28 alongside Dubai Design Week (October 24-29), and will be held once again at the Dubai Design District (d3), a purpose-built design center conceived as the primary destination for creative talent in the Middle East.
